Queen Elizabeth II's casket was carried by hearse from St. Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland to the airport on Tuesday afternoon, where the coffin was welcomed with a royal salute before being flown to London ahead of her state funeral.

The casket — accompanied by the Princess Royal — was moved from Scotland by Royal Air Force aircraft and will arrive at RAF Northolt later Tuesday evening. The queen's body will then travel by road to Buckingham Palace to rest in the Bow Room.

On Wednesday afternoon, the coffin will be part of a procession on a gun carriage of The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery — from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster Hall until the morning of the State Funeral. The funeral for Queen Elizabeth II will be held at Westminster Abbey on Monday, Sept. 19.

It's been almost a year now since the Queens passing and it's still unbelievable and sad. Scotland did her so proud in her days there before going back to London. The Military personnel, security officers, and police were exemplary 🌟♥️. I'm American and was so proud of ALL of them who took place in the Queens funeral from Scotland to Windsor for their hours dedicated to rehearsals and then the service itself 🌟❤🤍💙.
  • It’s March. I still cry watching her funeral. ESPECIALLY leaving Scotland.

Going by a story I read a while back, a few years ago, whilst planning her funeral reserch was done on how to transport her body if she died outside of London. By air was the obvious choice (quicker and would not delay other trains etc) A private jet was looked at but was seen as impractical to get the casket in and out of and a commertial plane had similar issues so they decided on an RAF troop transport plane the same type that was used to repatriate British soldiers. As HM had to sign off on the plans they were slightly worried about putting the idea to her. After they gave the recomendation HM replied 'If it is good enough for our armed forces, it is good enough for me'.
