What is cryotherapy and why is it so important in skin treatments? I discuss the types I use in my clinic (from Liquid nitrogen, freezepen nitrous oxide & Hydrozid norflurane).

Sometimes referred to cryosurgery, cryotherapy can treat warts, molluscum conatgiosum, seborrhoeic keratosis, solar keratosis, solar lentigo, and host of other skin conditions and dermatological problems.

I discuss the complications and expectations from the procedure itself.

  • My doc used this on a suspicious spot (AK) I had on my nose. Worked a charm, no re-growth.

I suggest that Cryo-therapy is technology that has lost it's place in the treatment of most skin lesions. At our clinic we have used Cryogen in the past, primarily liquid nitrogen, but with it, it is difficult to control the damage area precisely, because you have to spray several times to get to the "root", and each time you spray, the "kill zone" becomes bigger. The other cryogens that are mentioned typically are not cold enough or do not go deep enough to kill the "root" of the problems, except for small lesions such as skin tags under 1/8th inch or 3mm. All moles and warts and pre-cancerous lesions have a "root that has to be killed or the lesion will come back. At our clinic, we find that laser treatments with the modern lasers, either with the Yag or Alex laser, will do a more precise job of killing the unwanted cells in the lesions, because we can adjust the size of the aperture and the intensity of the laser to kill most things with one treatment, without damaging the surrounding skin which causes longer healing times and possible scarring. The laser will directly target the melanin in the lesion instantly destroying the cells. The after care is minimal and the healing time is quick. Elite Sante LLC
