Itโs actually about abusing drugs. Ronnie Van Zant wrote a song on this because Gary Rossington, one of the guitar players was in a car wreck while on drugs and alcohol. The whole band was headed down a bleak road if they didnโt change their ways Ronnie knew. The tomorrow might not be here for you part isnโt about living life to its fullest. Itโs a grim warning that is things didnโt change โtomorrow might no be here for you! The lyrics are... Oooh that smell, canโt you smell that smell? Oooh that smell..... the smell of death surrounds you! This was on their last album that was released 2 days before the plane crash that took Ronnieโs, Cassie and Steveโs lives. The rest of the band was extremely lucky to be alive. All suffered horrible injuries. The plane ran out of fuel. Thatโs how there were survivors. No fire that normally kills everyone in a aircraft crash. You should read up on the history of this band. They were one of if not the best thing going in music when this happened. Such a sad story and the rest of the band suffered hard times after the crash. The band was no more with their leader gone. Allen Collins, the best guitar player ever in my book, his life led to a tragic end way to early as well. Lots of history with Lynyrd Skynyrd. From their starting out and playing, honing their craft for 7 years, 10 hrs a day in an old metal building till they finally got their break. Ronnie was a genius as a song writer. He wrote the majority of their music and never โwroteโ a word down on paper. He had it in his head once it came to him. Allan Collins, came up with lots of their music. He came up with the music to Freebird and the solo at the age of 14. They were an amazing band! Oct. 20, 1977 was the day Lynyrd Skynyrd sadly ended! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynyrd_Skynyrd_plane_crash

Tuesdayโs Gone, Gimme Three Steps.... just a couple of classics โ๐ธ๐ฅ๐๐ฏ
-
Oh hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...They only had a 4 year span before the plane crash.....but the best band ever!!!! No other band in rock history knew how to use 3 guitarists like LYNYRD SKYNYRD
-
I see Skynyrd, I AUTOMATICALLY hit like. Itโs a true story, reprimanding Gary Rossington for his shenanigans and how how it caused a delay in their tour.
-
Also, check out Skynyrd's "Give me back my bullets"
-
Ronnie wrote this song after Gary Rossington wrecked his new car while driving drunk and high on drugs and they had too postpone some tour dates which made Ronnie mad.
-
Thank you so much for reacting to my all time favorite band. "Simple Man", Call Me The Breeze" are a couple worth reacting to. ๐โ
-
Skynyrd concerts you can smell it for sure lmao

He's talking about the smell of death surrounding people who do drugs & drink too much. He says "there's too much coke & too much smoke, oak tree you're in my way"...referencing all the wrecks that Gary Rossington, one of the guitarists, had because of drugs & booze. And all the drugs & drinking the whole band was doing...and if they kept on that road, they were going to die...hence, the smell of death surrounds you. My fav band...pretty much any song by them that you choose is going to be great! Don't know if you did the live version of Freebird...if not, check out both the Knebworth, England concert & the Oakland Colosseum concert in '77...just a few months before the tragic plane crash that killed lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist (short brown hair) Stevie Gaines, his sister & backup singer, Cassie Gaines, their asst road manager, Dean Kilpatrick, along with pilot & co-pilot (who caused the crash). Do live performances of their songs...their albums are great...their live concerts were awesome!! Just of the top off my head you should check out these songs...Sweet Home Alabama, Simple Man, Working For MCA, T For Texas, Gimme Three Steps, What's Your Name, Call Me The Breeze, I Know A Little, The Ballad of Curtis Loew, Saturday Night Special, The Needle & the Spoon, Gimme Back My Bullets, Tuesday's Gone, Don't Ask Me No Questions, You Got That Right, Cry For The Bad Man, Whiskey Rock-A-Roller. That should get you started!
