Blizzard Does Not Understand Their Own Characters

This video was the perfect feel-good confirmation bias for me today. I felt like I was a little crazy thinking that Mauga is an awful experience playing against.

I’ve noticed when blizz doesn’t know how to balance a character (read: any time they rework a character) they give that character a throwable projectile that inflicts some sort of effect, ie DoT (virus/pigpen), hinder, whatever enfeebling orb was, etc

they thought 5v5 role lock would magically fix the game, but all it did was make problem of either dying instantly or staying alive forever worse you can't have tanks like mauga, hog, junker queen, etc. be good unless they feel oppressive because they are inherently "off-tanks" in a game that no longer has off tanks they just want to slowly make this game as generic as an FPS as possible so more people play and more people buy the battle pass; which means reworking the tanks and making them all fit one "Tank" archetype, and eventually limiting swapping or adding hero bans; at which point it will no longer be Overwatch, since the game's core design was around swapping and player agency there are simply more people that can aim and shoot near the glowing flashing objective than swap their comp 4 times to get through double shield on the first choke of volskya

Exactly my thoughts. It's like they accidentally come up with a cool idea for a hero and then have no clue how to balance it. I wish his cardiac overdrive was WAY nerfed and they played more into his passive so that he had more sustain based on your aim and decision making instead of "I pressed this button, now I win."

I find it so hilarious that they wanted to make Mauga more effective against squishies and less effective against tanks and they ended up doing the exact opposite of what they were aiming for. The devs have no clue what they're doing bro.

I'm disappointed at how mauga turned out,a character that was teased for years and anticipated by fans is now stuck with the most brain dead kit and play style

Honestly your idea to have a penalty on tank ignition is great, too bad blizz didn't implement it.

Man im ngl playing Mauga has been the most fun ive had since I first started playing this game. Even when im losing or getting stomped im still laughing my ass off. But im also a very stupid person and you sound smart so you're probably right about him. but regardless Mauga is my last hope for this game, I cannot stand playing any other hero now so if they ruin him im probably just gonna quit the game altogether. Mauga did make me realize tho that before I wasn't really playing because I was having fun but rather because I thought I had to keep playing. now that im having fun again I cannot go back.

In beta mauga got a +30% fire rate when shooting both guns for some which got removed, but they could probably make it -30% and tighten the spread by a little and revert the damage back to 5 so he’s better at poke and isn’t incentisvised to focus the tank so much

I won't lie, I enjoyed being dumb in quickplay just shooting up the other tank brainlessly. But that enjoyment died once I played with Mauga as support. You are forced into playing Kiriko, ana or Zen just to either keep your Mauga alive or kill the other tank fast enough for him to finally be able to shoot something else. Miserable experience. I will also say, I didn't have the battle pass for the first 2 days of season 8, playing against Mauga queued for tank was...an experience. If it wasn't a dive map like Gibraltar where I could use Winston, I was in pain.

Brig forced 2/2/2 Sig forced 5v5 I wonder what Maug will force (And when I say “forced” I mean the devs don’t know how to balance their characters and would rather adjust the entire game’s format than address the problem heroes)

I wholeheartedly agree with your statements, because I've been feeling the same thing. The most interesting thing about him is that he can play for range and he can exploit characters who typically don't have vulnerable Crits and the idea that he could potentially pressure support from range by denying their heal over time passive is such an interesting concept for a tank. But sadly they essentially produced him down to a tank buster that's just going to enable a goats like comp and make playing any tank that's not directly his counter absolutely miserable to play against especially if they have tank busting heroes like Mei or bastion. I think another thing people don't realize is whenever mauga is being played it incentivizes the tank to be passive and not do anything to risky or flashy because the more the tanks getting hit the more mauga feeds off them. He's essentially punishing you for being proactive on tank. :buffering:

Fortunately, Tuesday's patch will include a revert on the fire nerf, plus buffs to his survivability. Fingers crossed.

I feel like im the only person who enjoys Mauga's current gameplay. I love getting close and holding both buttons and hearing the BRRRR of his chain guns. Its exhilarating! But I can't stand the swapping guns to poke from far away style of gameplay. Its boring. And on the flipside it's super fun to dive in with Mauga as a support and watch him devistate an enemy team. I played a few games as Moira and would fade in with my Mauga. I could keep him up with heal, orb, and Coalescence while hiding behind his massive hitbox. I esentially had a shield with two guns who I could keep up and help deal damage with. If i was better at Kiriko I's sure I would be diving in with him aswell. I don't get the "boring" sentament that others have for healing a Mauga. But like I said, that's probably just me.

They should just revert the fire nerf. His whole gameplay revolves around putting enemy on fire then hitting them, those small heals saves you a lot. I played after the nerf and dropped him, his survivability got waaaaay worse if you dont crit constantly. Blizzard should just fire their balance team and get in contact with top players who can actually play the game.
