I Ran The David Goggins Challenge | 4x4x48

Published 2021-12-18
48 miles over 48 hours doesn't sound too bad in the grand scheme of ultra endurance challenges, but when you factor in the sleep deprivation that comes with having to go for a run every four hours, the Goggins Challenge is no small feat. Mark took on the 4x4x48 to raise money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Will you consider taking on this enduring challenge?
  • Did it last year with a group of friends. It was awesome. Miserable, but honestly such a great time. The running part was not bad for me as I typically run 40-50 a week. Where it got hard was the lack of sleep and the zero recovery. Probably didnā€™t sleep more than 3 hours for the two days we were doing the challenge. My advice would be to have a stretch routine after every run, and sleep where you can. Finding some friends to do it with too was also huge. Makes the challenge way more fun when you suffer together.
  • My wife did this twice back in 2020 when all of our races got canceled. I just joined her for the overnight runs so she wouldnā€™t be out alone in the darkness, that was enough for me.

Maybe is because I was a runner first, but I love that you donā€™t restrict yourself to multisport and do a lot of running content. šŸ‘

I really wish I lived closer to people who shared this endurance sport like mindedness. I live around the type who love big bellies, big beards, and only enjoy talking about automobiles. šŸ™„ Great job mark! Great to see you running healthy!
  • @OFFSHOREDOUG
Staying awake and motivated would be the hardest part I presume. Respect to anyone who does this stuff.

Completed my 4x4x48 a week ago. I wanted to use it as training for running through the night at some ultra marathons I have planned so did 11 of the 12 solo. Also tried to stress myself mentally by each run starting from the same point. It's definitely an achievement to complete but you can adapt to you as an individual so much.

Well done! Iā€™ve done it the last two years. Challenging and fun. Goggins is an inspiration. A few logistics to nail down, but overall an incredible experience. I plan on completing it every year šŸ‘ŠšŸ¾šŸ’„ stay hard!

Well done Mark, really impressive to do this in winter as well. Some real logistics to deal with being in different locations
  • Well done Mark, and thank for introducing me to the charity. What a fabulous charity! Brilliant work, hardcore.

Mark, great job! My name is Mark as well; (Great name by the way); proud of you. I did this challenge 2 years ago and am doing it again next week. I will let you know how it goes; great training and also great cause the Challenged athlete's foundation. I used to work with para and quadriplegic athletes. Love it. Cheers

Wow, The CAF is so inspiring and a sober reminder to be grateful everyday. Way to get er done mate!
  • I done this all by myself after COVID cancelled my Ironman. The distance was easy. It's the recovery that's the hardest, the foam rolling got me through. Amazing how your body adapts though because by the end I felt fine and went back to running sub 30 4 miles
  • Brilliant work. I'll be documenting my attempt between Xmas and new year šŸ‘
  • @scotius
Just completed my first 4x4x48 at midnight last night. The running part was not as bad as I thought, but the lack of sleep (about 5-6 hours total of broken sleep) and you are right, keeping fueled, was also hard. Had some friends for 2 of the runs but the rest was solo. It was still a pretty amazing challenge and I think I will make it an annual thing.
  • @Casperr123
Well done, love your optimism and great mood all the time
  • @bencarroll5551
Well done Mark! That was definitely a challenge! Very inspiring! On the donations page, I think its compulsory to enter a USA state, I'm in the UK and only managed to make a donation by saying i was in New York, got it to work in the end. Well done for raising money for a brilliant charity!

Great stuff! I loved the 4x4x48 challenge when I did it ...other than the 4am ones, although they were oddly satisfying!
