This somewhat forgotten about camera included some pretty ground-breaking technology when it was first released. As a result, over 10 years later, this camera is still very capable, even by 2024 standards. And priced at around $300, I think the Olympus OM-D E-M1 is one of the best mirrorless cameras you can buy on a budget.

I think Olympus has a great underrated camera design
  • I'm totaly agree with you way of thinking : old gears still do very good job for a sweat price. I just received an Olympus e-m5 mk2 in a very good shape for less than 300 euros. It's realy a little Olympus e-m1 mk2, same functions but smaller and more functions than i can use.

Great review! My EM 1 actually arrived today haha 😂 battery is charging while I watched this video. I got it dirt cheap and I can't wait to try it out.
  • @free_re_fells
The EM-5 MK II is my all time favorite Olympus Camera. 📷 But the EM-1 is still way ahead of its time. Shame that OM Systems isn’t swinging for the fences in terms of innovation.

my Fuji X10 now sells more than when I bought it. I have the OMD-EM5 II and its a great camera. Do that next so it will increase in value.
  • I had two original E-M1s (still have one of them) and it's all you say it is, and truly is an amazing value for the money today. I have to say, though, that I think the Olympus E-M1 Mk II is probably one of, if not the best, overall bang for the buck used camera available today. It has several major upgrades over the Mk I, including a 20mp sensor, much faster processor, High Res 80Mp capability, and much more. And, clean examples doesn't cost all that much more than the Mk I. It might make for an interesting video if you were to compare the two. Thanks for an excellent presentation.

Great photos! I have the E-M5, E-M5ii and E-M1ii. All wonderful in their own way and I still use them regularly.
  • @cameralabs
Loved the EM1 - it was my main camera for a long time!
  • Great Review. Thanks for that. I bought a used EM1 Mk2 and am very happy with it. For the non Pro Lenses I like using my EM5 Mk3

Hi Tom, I owned this camera, purchased it brand new back in the day. This omd Em1 original has one serious flaw, the left lug will eventually come off when you least expect it. This can cost you more than the camera body alone if a valuable lens is attached. Olympus made up for this design flaw with the much better omd E-M1 mark II in 2017, get that camera instead, you will thank me later.
  • you can find the mk2 at vey good prices plus it was given a masive update to lift it above the mk1
  • You have a lot of videos on old cameras. We need a top 10 under $200 or $300 with those old cameras. PLEASE
  • When you talk about the older cameras would you also suggest what an average and preferred shutter count would be. I know I would be grateful and I am sure many others would be too.

Got the Mii in January paired with the 12-40mm and it slaps!

I scored an OM-D E-M1 about a month ago for £199 and it was in excellent condition, came with a battery grip, and a couple of books specifically about the camera. I love it. It really feels "PRO". I had to get used to the very light shutter button though - at first, I thought it was faulty, but apparently, many pros prefer a light shutter button as it reduces potential camera shake. Again, another great video focusing on this camera's key USPs.
  • @Luisdbarber
Hi i just saw the video of the lens hood and nd filter and I would like to know where can I buy one ?
  • My walkaround is a Fuji X100 and my serious cam is a Sony A7. If again I may have gone M43 instead of A7 considering lenses. The only things to consider are low light as wide angle.
  • Picked up a copy for a bargain £250 a few years ago only criticism is not great in low light but some cracking features. Picked up a couple of Panasonic lenses that are great for the price and an adaptor to use all of my vintage lenses❤ favourite feature is ibis

I got the E-M1 II for about 450€ used and I absolutely love it. Compared to the Mk I it has 4K30 Video as well as 1080p60, so that was a big plus for me. Otherwise most of what you had to say about the Mk I is also true for the Mk II. It's just a great camera with a great ecosystem around it.
